The Journey To Becoming a Professional Blogger

Beach for blogging

Just a picture of any perfect beach where the sand it white and the water is crystal clear blue.

Right now I’m developing a mission and a message.

It took some time to come to this point.

I just wanted to write a poem

And call it a blog post.

No, I’m not going to write poetry to you now.  I’m going to talk to you about my journey to becoming a professional blogger.  To tell you where I’m at and what I’ve done, and what I’m doing to become a professional blogger.  Some body who makes money by helping other people to blog.

I have a barely engaged list of 11 people.  That’s taken me around a year to make.  So not even one subscriber a month.  At least that’s the average.  It’s more like I get three in a month and then I go with nothing for months.  It’s really a painful experience.  I hope to be able to do more.  That’s why I’m taking massive action creating a savings account from my day job so I can pay cash to go to an event.  I’ve heard from Pat Flynn (who makes a million dollars a year) that if he only had a few hundred dollars and wanted to start a business what would he do.  He always says he would get to a blogging event.

Granted an event is more than I could pay for at the present, it’s not like I’m not saving to go to one and already have a head start.  In a few more months (which happen quick)  I will have enough to pay for a ticket and a room.  The room being important because I don’t want to have to sleep on the streets.  If I had a gun to my head I would, like being in sales, I would do it.  But if I don’t have a gun to my head I’m only going to put into my best work what I do on my blog and I’m not going to be sleeping on the streets.  I do sell that like I have a gun to my head, as all bloggers should blog, but I would then again, like my family, die for my blog.  Not that that would be necessary.  I would also die for my day job, that being said they have a good employee.  They’ve definitely extended a helping hand to me and my family.  It’s been like no other day, or night job that I’ve ever had.  Granted it doesn’t pay as much as some other jobs I’ve had.

But it’s a hard job.  Just like the writing.  It’s hard.  If it wasn’t it wouldn’t be worth doing.  Although, I get procrastination, even worse procrastination without reading anything.  After life, you just want to sit there and unwind.  I’ve found though that it’s best to be doing something, rather than just drinking.

Especially when you can say that more than one thing went right today.  That should inspire you to take even more action.  But as I said I’m developing my mission on this journey to become a professional blogger.  Right now I believe that mission is to help bloggers blog.  I also have come up with a message.  That message being that blogging is one of the best ways to develop personally and professionally.  That’s what I’m currently living by.

To be honest I’m a big fan of the law of attraction and I for years tried to manifest a lottery win.   The best I ever did was to win $50 off a dollar scratch off.  You could say with all the time I spent doing nothing but visualization I was wasting my time in a state of inaction or limbo.  There’s nothing I can do to get that time back.

Although that’s not to say I won’t still win the lottery, but that’s not what my focus is going to be on.  I making the shift to blogging.  Everyday, as I go about my day, I will be thinking of being a professional blogger.  Feeling what being a professional blogger will feel like.  It’s a lot better than writing a blog post on how I’m going to be a millionaire tomorrow morning and being wrong, and repeating that ad nausem.

Believe me, I’ve done it.  I had a blog on blogger, a free blog and it was all about when I was in the mood I would write these poems about winning these specific jackpots, and none of it ever happened.

Believe me, blogging about blogging is much better than blogging about the lottery.  There is a far less chance you’ll make a fool of yourself.

At any rate, as I was getting to, I’m going to a free event at Eggspectation 10209 Grand Central Ave in Owenings Mills, Maryland.  They are holding an event called “Money and Mimosas”.  My goal is to exchange email addresses with at least one other person.  Maybe it will happen, maybe it won’t.  Either way it’s going to be nice to get out of the house for the reason of blogging.

I know I would love to meet you at this event, if you wanted to go, I know it’s kind of short notice as it’s tomorrow March 4th, 2018 at 12pm.  If you want to go though, here is the link.

Money and Mimosas

I’m really looking forward to it.  I’m happy about it.  I love blogging and going to this thing is going to be an expression of that love.  I hope you can find it in yourself to write your own blog today, because of what you’ve just read here.

You’ve Got More Subscribers!

This is a personal blog.  It is also a business blog.  I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately.  This blog is going to be taking on new life.

Some of what I’ve discovered is that when you’re selling something (which if your blog is a business you are going to be doing) you’ve got to drop your ego and become centered around what your prospect wants.  What do the people you are selling to want?  This is what I’m thinking of when I write about getting 3 more email subscribers on my list.

This, as I mentioned, is a personal blog.  It is also about business.  So I wanted to share my personal journey about my business with you by letting you in on a little secret.  I got 3 more subscribers.  It was a matter of me putting myself out there with video, and showing it to someone I knew.  A coworker.  She signed up on the spot, and on top of that she also shared my video with her social network and I got 2 more subscribers!  Talk about progress!  When your list is only at 8 people and you get 3 more in a matter of a few days, it feels incredible.  When it took you a year and 9 months to get 8 people, you cheer when you get three in a row.  It may sound like I’m not getting results with the numbers I’m working with but if your thinking that you’re missing the big picture.

I am producing a result with this blog, and if your on my email list, your taking the journey with me.  Just know by me sharing my personal story my goal is to help you blog.  If I can do it, surely you can do it too.  My main message I’m going to be coming across with is that there is no better way to develop personally and professionally than by blogging.   That’s just what I believe when I think over what can be done for personal and professional development.  I’d love to hear what you think about that in the comments of this post.  That is if they are still open when you get here.  Although there are other ways of contacting me if you would like me to hear what you have to say.  I’m open to that.

To be honest I wish I would have asked my coworker that signed up if it would be alright if I used her name in this post (sort of to make her famous) before I started writing it.  I don’t like using people’s names, I’ve never said where I worked other than it was a ham store, and I like protecting people’s identities.  But as I’ve said, I’ve been doing some reading, and what I’ve found is that your readers like it when you make them famous by writing about them on your blog.  It adds to their own personal brand.  It’s valuable to them.  I don’t think I would do it without asking them first though.  Suffice to say, I have another subscriber and she brought 2 more people along with her.  It’s a small victory, but a victory non the less.

I know you’ve got to be thinking to yourself, Jess, if you’ve been blogging for almost 2 years and you’ve only got 11 subscribers then what chance do I have of starting a blogging business and becoming profitable now?

Well, I’m not claiming to know all the answers, but I will tell you that blogging is a long term game.  Most blogs aren’t profitable until they are almost 3 years old (according to Darren Rowse of Problogger).  When blogs do make money though, they can make a million dollars a year like Pat Flynn does at SmartPassiveIncome.com.  It’s all in how well you do it.

You and I may never make a million dollars a year spreading our own unique message to the world.  But we could make something!  I’ve heard on a podcast that you can consider every subscriber you have to be worth one dollar a month.  If you get into that game, every subscriber you get is worth something to you, so each one, even when you only have a few, is awesome to get.   It’s a marvelous game.  This is part of the beauty of blogging.  This is part of my message that blogging is the best way to develop personally and professionally.  It’s fulfilling and it’s all yours.  It’s your very own business.

So even if your a schizophrenic, or you just have challenges with life, you can build a business at your own pace, be it working 4 hours a day, or just 4 hours a week on your blog, spreading your message (of course with copious amounts of love in it) to the entire world and live a fulfilling life.  The best part is it only costs $40 a month to do so.  Get hosting through GoDaddy and get your email list from Convertkit.  That’s all you need maybe other than a bumper sticker and some business cards that have your website on it.  Do the rest for free on social media.  Bada bing bada boom, you’ve got yourself business to work on.

Part of the beauty of blogging being the best way to develop personally and professionally is you can do it everyday in every way.  You can do it while your working your day job by talking to the people you work with about it!  I would advise you not talk about it to the point where you are annoying them, but you can definitely creatively work it into some conversations here and there and get real time feedback on how to make your work better (that is if their feedback is constructive).

If you are finding yourself wanting to blog right now, to blog your message to the world, I can say I’ve done my job.  I’ve got myself 3 more subscribers.  How many subscribers do you think you could get in your first week after just a few blog posts, just telling the people you work with about it?  Maybe it’s a lot more than I can do.

I would love to hear your feedback on how many people you think you could get in your first week.  All you have to do to get in instant contact with me is to subscribe to my email list.  You’ll get a free ebook, and updates to this site.  Be sure you subscribe and if you ever have anything to say just reply to one of the emails I send you.  I’ll be sure to write back.

Yours Truly,

Jesse Creel
